How Long Does The Treatment Last?
Years. The coating is permanently bonded with individual fibers and can only be removed through abrasion (excessive rubbing/scraping). The treatment will become less effective with excessive dirt or abrasion. If you were to leave the tie alone for 6 years or more, it would still repel water. The treatment can last up to 25 hand washes. Follow the directions under the question "How Do I Take Care Of My DryTie?" to keep your tie in top condition.
How Do I Take Care Of The DryTie?
If you spill or get food on the DryTie, use water from your sink or other pressured water source to rinse it off.
Excessive dirt or dust over time will make the coating less effective. If it get's dirty, rinse it and remove excess dirt with a fine brush. A tie typically will not get dirty enough that it will cause an issue with the treatment and should stay liquid repellent for 3+ years. We recommend to treat the DryTie with the same care you would use for any other tie with the exception of how you clean it. Fabric softener, conventional dry cleaning, and bleach will remove the coating and it will need to be reapplied.
Why Is The DryTie Treatment Process Better Than Using Something Like ScotchGuard?
ScotchGuard is just hydrophobic, not superhydrophobic which is similar to the difference of something being water resistant and waterproof. Scotchguard needs to be reapplied occasionally and doesn't provide the same level of protection. Almost all superhydrophobic sprays in the United States, such as NeverWet, cover the material with a chalky haze that effects the color and texture of the items, making them not ideal for clothing. The chemical we use is 100% safe, eco-friendly (e.g., non-aerosol), odorless, invisible, and does not effect the look or feel of the fabric.
Why Can't I Just Treat My Ties Myself?
You can treat them yourself. You may want to just have us do it for the following reasons:
- We can treat them for a fraction of the price it would cost you (including shipping from Europe, the smallest bottle would cost $29).
- For this type of treatment, your item needs to be new or at least totally clean and free of dirt and dust.
- The treatment involves spraying the tie, brushing it in, and repeating 3 times with 10 minutes in between each repetition. After treating it three times, the tie air drys for 24 hours.
- We are experienced with the treatment process and can make sure we treat every tie evenly and thoroughly. If we ever mess up, you can exchange your tie for a new one.
The idea behind DryTie was that instead of having to pay the extra money and do all the work to treat their own items, customers would rather save money and buy items already pretreated using the best treatment and treatment processes available.
Is The DryTie Safe?
Yes, we only use treatments that are approved for use by consumers. The chemical we use is 100% safe, eco-friendly, non-hazardous, and non-toxic.
